What is Industrial Style?
It is now quite common to see weathered wood, unfinished steel, concrete and exposed brick used as interior design elements. The industrial style evolved from the conversion of warehouses and industrial buildings for use as living spaces. Elements such as grey colours, repurposed materials, open spaces and an unfinished feel are typical of this style. The type of lighting used is important, floor lamps and overhead lights with metal finish are popular. For the kitchen, reclaimed wood and metal combined in shelving and kitchen island works well, a polished concrete floor, exposed brick, wooden or steel beams and ornate tiles can be combined to complete the look. Another great addition is the use of industrial style sliding doors with heavy duty iron fittings.
